2 Ludhiana men nabbed with Rs 20 lakh in counterfeit currency in Jalandhar : The Tribune India

Two people were arrested by the city police for printing and circulating counterfeit currency notes. Two persons were also arrested by the police for printing and circulating fake currency in amounts of Rs 20 lakh, as well as a coloured printer. They also had a car (PB01B-3885).

Ram Singh (42), a resident in Khanna Khurd, Ludhiana and Pawandeep Singh (28), alias Deep, are the accused.

S Boopathi, DCP, Investigation Jaskaranjit Sing Teja said that Inderjit Singh (in charge of the anti-narcotics cells) received a tip-off indicating that the accused were involved with printing fake currency at home using a coloured printer, and had cheated people with fake money. “Acting on which, the team of anti-narcotics cell along with other police officials laid a naka near GNA chowk in Jalandhar Cantt, and the accused persons were stopped for checking. Fake currency amounting to Rs 20 lakh was recovered from a black bag in their car,” they added.

Both of them are known habitual offenders. Pawandeep’s case under the NDPS Act is pending. Ram Singh’s cases under different sections of the IPC are already being registered at Ludhiana and Khanna police stations.

“The accused have been arrested under Sections 489A, 489C, 489D and 420 of the IPC. The court granted the accused two-day remand to the police. The further investigation in the case is under way,” Boopathi, said.
