Carima to exhibit high-speed C-CAT DLP 3D printing offering at Formnext

Korean 3D printer manufacturer Carima Digital Light Processing (DLP), has announced plans for showcasing its Carima Continuous Additive Technology Systems (C-CAT) at Formnext. 

Carima is known for its high-speed resin 3D printers that are industrial- and professional-grade. This has helped to gain traction in the dental and medical sectors, as well as continuing to address automotive and medical demand. 

The firm’s machines are powered by ‘C-CAT,’ a process it says is up to 20 times faster than that of rival 3D printers, and is the “world’s fastest continuous AM technology.” To showcase the potential of its technology, the company plans to exhibit the versatile desktop Carima IMD 3D printer, alongside its post-printing offering and samples created from 25 materials, at Formnext from 15-18 November, 2022.

Carima’s DLP printing business 

Carima was established in 2000 by Lee Byungkeuk, the CEO. This firm has a background in both the CK industry as well as the development of photolithography equipment. They now operate in the 3D printing market. Byung-keuk founded the company with a vision of creating a ‘carry and imagine’ desktop resin system, which was compact and capable enough for users to move and rapidly deploy in any given environment. 

Carima was granted 23 patents and has 63 patents pending. These patents pertain to the Carima proprietary high-speed CCAT technology that is the foundation of its product portfolio. It is Korea’s oldest 3D printer manufacturer. This recognition has led to its inclusion in The Wohlers Report. 

Over the last seven years, Carima has worked with other businesses, research institutes and R&D centers to broaden its addressable markets as well. With the goal of disrupting the dental market, Carima has formed partnerships with software, material and hardware development groups.

With C-CAT, you can 3D print resin at a rapid pace 

C-CAT was developed at Carima and allows rapid curing of material at a rate as high as one centimeter per second. Carima engineers are still working to improve 3D printing stability by reducing the forces generated during resin release. This technology will be ready for commercialization by the end of this year. 

At present, the firm’s portfolio includes a range of resin systems alongside its CL300Pro and CL1800 post-curing machines, Carima 3D printing materials and Carima Slicer. At the top end of the company’s offering is the Carima DM400, a large-format top-down printer with a 400 x 330 x 500mm build volume, and two 2K DLP projectors. These provide the machine with high-resolution 3D printing capabilities, and enable it to produce parts with fine surface details, down to an accuracy of 133µm. 

When it comes to 3D printing models for its core dental clientele, Carima says the DM400 is also “five times faster” than industrial SLA 3D printers with the same build area. The company claims its machine is fast enough to help business owners reduce equipment and labor cost while also printing resins like rubber up to 10,000 Centipoises, cPs. 

The firm also markets the Carima IMD3D printer, a desktop machine that can be used for medical and dental applications. Though the system features a smaller 124 x 70 x 140mm build plate, it’s built around the same C-CAT technology. As such, the IMD, complete with FHD screen resolution and 99% light uniformity, doesn’t require users to compromise on repeatability or precision. 

To post-process the parts made using its machines, Carima also offers the CL300Pro, a curing station that boasts a ⌀ 150 x 110mm curing area. Thanks to its 300W UV LED, the system is said to be capable of post-curing dental models at a rate of around three minutes per side, including not only the part’s surface but its complex internal structures.

High-speed Driving continuous AM technology Formnext

Carima’s C-CAT technology will be on display at one of the most important trade shows in the 3D printing industry this year. The event will be held in Frankfurt, Germany and features over 730 exhibitors showcasing the latest developments in 3D printing, alongside experts and investors from the sector. 

Carima revealed at the show that it will showcase its IMD3D printer, its CL300Pro postprocessing unit, as well as a variety of samples made using its proprietary resins such Carima Tough, Carima Nontoxic CMYK, and Carima Tough.
