IPSi Incorporates Epson ColorWorks With Industrial Robot for One-to-1 Automated Color Labeling Systems

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., Nov. 17, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — As more businesses see the need to increase packaging and labeling speed, Epson today announced its reseller partner, Integrated Productivity Systems (IPSi), has created an automated print-and-apply labeling solution. Epson ColorWorks –® IPSi’s on-demand color-label printer and Epson VT6L 6-Axis bot, IPSi helps businesses improve efficiency and reduce costs by providing a flexible, innovative way to print high-quality color labels, and then apply them next-label. The solution is shown in this video.

IPSi was focused on small- and mid-sized manufacturers and distributors that do not have the skills or resources to rapidly design, develop, and implement process improvement improvements in their operations. IPSi saw an opportunity for combining the ColorWorks label printer with an Epson 6-Axis Robot to bring automation and color to business. IPSi partnered with JM Automation Services to develop a state-of the-art robotic print-and–apply system. This allows for products to be packaged and labeled more efficiently and quickly.

“Businesses need to print high-quality color labels on demand – which is especially important for personalization, one-on-one marketing and serialization where every label needs to be different,” said Rick Schilling, president, IPSi. “The Epson ColorWorks Label Printer can be integrated with an Epson 6-Axis Robot to enable us to address all the challenging applications of printing and applying color labels on any type of container.”

The ColorWorks CW-6500P and CW-66000P provide on-demand color labels with a width of 1-to 4-inches and 1-to 8-inches respectively. They also have a peel and present option. Applicator I/O control port is standard on these industrial strength label printers. This allows for automated label application as well as integration with other automated systems. Combining the 6-Axis robot’s end-of arm tooling (EOAT), this combination offers unlimited possibilities for businesses to print and apply color labeling to flat containers, round containers, and everything else in between.

Businesses who find themselves in situations where they require a unique label for each container will benefit from an on-demand color label solution. Andy ScherzCommercial Labels senior product manager Epson America, Inc. “IPSi” created a unique solution to demonstrate the power of automation in full-color printing-and-apply marking for industrial manufacturing environments.

The Epson VT6L robot has all the features you need and is easy to use. The All-in-One design and built-in controller help save valuable factory space. Additionally, the SlimLine structure allows access to tight areas in tight spaces thanks to its compact wrist pitch.

“Epson makes robotic automation simple for organizations that want operational simplicity and flexibility to meet changing requirements quickly,” said Scott MarsicEpson Robots’ group product manager,Epson AllThe versatile -in-One 6-Axis robotics can be used for a wide range of applications, including label application. They are capable of supporting pick and place, dispensing, and many other tasks. Epson robots can integrate quickly onto the warehouse floor and are easy to program and control, which helps alleviate some of the fear about automation.

A print-and-apply robot and printer solution can streamline label printing and application. It also simplifies inventory management to meet customer demand. The combined solution reduces inventory waste by being cost- and time-efficient. The solution is already in use by IPSi customers.
